While they may seem to have little practical value today, they can help the world transition to a clean, renewable future. Biomass is the oldest form of renewable energy and is the most common. Ancient peoples used biomass to burn food. Hundreds of thousands of years later, wind and sea power became commonplace. The second-oldest form of renewable energy is wind and is used to propel ships across water. In the ancient Roman era, windmills were used to propel boats. Geothermal energy was also used for space heating and bathing. So, the benefits of Renewable Energy are numerous.

By 2030, renewables will be at least 35 percent of electricity in the U.S., most of which will come from wind and solar power. The new requirements are set to increase to 36 billion gallons by 2022. This is the equivalent of seven percent of gasoline in the U.S. every year.
